Local Council Weed Management Survey

The management of weeds in villages and towns across Devon is still mainly carried out by Local Councils using a range of approaches including hand-weeding, mechanical weeding, herbicides and leaving some areas alone with minimal management.

With growing evidence that pesticides can be harmful to human health and damaging to our wider ecosystem, particularly invertebrates which are important for soil function and pollinators that are essential for the production of food crops, Green Futures Devon, with support from the Devon Association of Local Councils and the University of Exeter, is carrying out a Weed Management Survey with all 403 of Devon’s Parish and Town Council’s.

Once the Survey is completed, we will be circulating the results to all Devon Local Councils and working with them to help implement measures that support healthier communities and a more resilient local ecosystem.
